Nationwide Competition to Name Kazakhstan’s First Nuclear Power Plant to Launch on September 25 – Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy
Today, the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy held the first meeting of the Commission responsible for organizing a nationwide competition to select the official name for Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant.
The Commission includes representatives from the public, the creative industries, as well as experts in nuclear energy, philology, and history.
During the session, Commission members addressed organizational matters and approved the official Rules for the nationwide naming competition.
Chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy, Almasadam Satkaliyev, emphasized the importance of public participation in the process:
“To ensure maximum engagement from citizens across Kazakhstan, submissions for the nuclear power plant name will be collected through the eGov Mobile application. Launching the competition on the eve of the professional holiday, Nuclear Industry Workers’ Day, reaffirms the industry’s vital role in Kazakhstan’s socio-economic development.”
Following the discussions, the Commission approved the competition timeline:
• September 25 – Official announcement of the competition launch
• September 25 to October 10 – Submission of name proposals via the eGov Mobile app
• October 11 to October 24 – Review and analysis of submitted proposals
• By the end of October – Announcement of the winning name for the NPP
The official competition rules will be published on the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy’s official website and Telegram channel.
The Agency emphasized that the competition will be open and transparent. Every citizen will have the opportunity to submit a proposed name for the nuclear power plant, and the final decision by the Commission will be announced by the end of October.
