Coordination meetings with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as part of the preparations for the INIR mission.
The INIR mission is the key and most comprehensive IAEA mission for assessing a country’s readiness to construct a nuclear power plant. It includes an analysis of 19 key infrastructure elements required for the development of a national nuclear power programme.
The first phase of the INIR mission to review the state of Kazakhstan’s nuclear infrastructure was conducted in 2016. Following its results, the IAEA positively assessed Kazakhstan’s progress in developing its nuclear infrastructure and noted its systematic approach to implementing the recommendations.
As a continuation of this work, Kazakhstan has moved to Phase 2 of the INIR mission, aimed at a more detailed discussion of infrastructure and organizational issues.
Today, as part of the preparations for the upcoming mission, meetings with IAEA experts have commenced to assess the country’s readiness to establish the necessary organizational, legal and institutional conditions for the start of nuclear power plant construction.
